The City of Quinte West says storm cleanup is continuing after old man winter’s lashings this week.
Snow cleanup citywide is ongoing, and crews continue to tackle clearing streets and sidewalks, and snow removal will also occur in coming days, said city staff, in an update.
However, like other municipalities, staff noted the city is also dealing with a widespread salt shortage.
“In response, our crews are using more sand and less salt. Sand helps improve traction and is an effective alternative when salt is unavailable or in limited supply,” explained staff.
The city’s significant weather event declaration also remains in place until further notice. This declaration means it may take longer than usual to get streets and sidewalks back to normal conditions.
Officials added that residents should continue to allow extra time for their commutes and ask people to continue to give crews space to work safely.
“Thank you to our winter operations team for their continued hard work and to the public for their patience,” said staff.
