Brighton’s Hallie Clarke is officially in competition at the Winter Olympics.
The skeleton racer starts her event Friday morning with heats one and two. Following official training sessions, Clarke is slated to start 12th and will be the first Canadian athlete to take to the track in the competition.
The final two heats are scheduled for Saturday and residents will have a chance to cheer her on together.
A public watch party is planned for noon at the Owen Gibb Community Hall (inside King Edward) on Elizabeth Street. Organizers say coverage of heat three will start at noon, with heat four expected around 1:30 p.m.
The event is free to attend and residents are encouraged to wear red and white or other Canadian themed clothing. Snacks and refreshments will be available and attendees are invited to bring noise makers to show their support.
Clarke’s appearance at the games marks a proud moment for the municipality, with local leaders and residents rallying behind the hometown athlete as she competes on the world stage.
