A pedestrian hit by a train in the east end of Belleville has died, say police.
In an update from the Belleville Police Service Monday, Feb. 23, 2026, police confirmed that the pedestrian had been pronounced deceased and said any further inquiries should be directed to the Office of the Chief Coroner.
Earlier Monday, police had advised that rail crossings were temporarily blocked as officers responded just before 8 a.m. to “an incident involving a pedestrian who was struck by a train.”
Initially, police said officers remained on scene, and the investigation was ongoing. As a result of the incident, police originally said the train was blocking several crossings, impacting the area from Haig Road to South Front Street.
No additional information has been released.
