A Belleville resident accused of fleeing from Prince Edward County OPP and dangerous driving is facing charges, say police.
According to OPP, the alleged incident started out in the Picton area. Police said on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026, shortly after 9 a.m., officers witnessed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Talbot Street.
Police then allege the vehicle failed to stop for officers and entered a residential zone, which led OPP to discontinue a pursuit for public safety reasons. Vehicle details were then shared with the provincial communications centre, said OPP.
A subsequent review through automated licence plate reader (ALPR) technology and footage later help identify a distinctive vehicle with mismatched seasonal wheels and led officers to later locate the vehicle in the County Road 1 area where a traffic stop was conducted, reported OPP.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 22-year-old Belleville resident was arrested and charged with flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation and racing a motor vehicle.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
Police added the accused also had their vehicle impounded for 14 days.
The accused was released and will appear in court at a later date, said police.
