Central Hastings OPP says a Toronto resident has been charged after a deadly crash on Hwy. 7 last year that claimed the life of a 57-year-old motorcycle rider.
In an update issued on Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, OPP confirmed an arrest made in connection with their probe.
Back on April 27, 2025, shortly before 8:30 p.m., officers said they responded to reports of a vehicle being driven erratically in the westbound Hwy. 7 area. Shortly afterwards, officers said they discovered a collision involving the reported vehicle and a motorcycle.
The 57-year-old motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the scene, reported OPP.
As a result of the investigation, police said Aleem Rahmtulla, 20, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with dangerous operation causing death.
This charge has not been proven in court.
The accused was released from custody and will appear in Belleville court on March 26, 2026, reported OPP.
The investigation was also conducted with help from OPP’s traffic incident management enforcement team and Central Hastings crime unit, added police.
No other details were released by police.
