Fraudsters are back at it trying to scam people wanting to sign on as vendors for Brighton’s signature Applefest festival.
Applefest organizers say people interested in applying as vendors are urged to be mindful of scam accounts commenting on social media posts offering booth spaces and to add businesses to the festival’s vendor lineup.
People looking to book space at the 52nd edition of the festival should note that Applefest applications don’t open until April 1.
What’s more, applications will only be accepted through the Municipality of Brighton’s website or by alternative submission methods listed on hard copy applications still to come, say organizers.
All Applefest-related communications will also go through a designated co-ordinator to potential vendors via email or over the phone only after this contact information is provided on application forms.
“Based on our previous experiences, unfortunately, this will not be the last scam we have associated with the festival,” note organizers, while urging folks to stay vigilant and be cautious of all messages asking for money or those that appear to be spreading misinformation.
“Do not engage with anyone claiming to represent Applefest unless you can verify their identity.”
Organizers are also asking people if they notice anything unusual or suspicious to report it online.
