Brighton is gearing up for several big community events this month.
The Municipality of Brighton’s signature volunteer recognition ceremony is up first on April 23 where the Community Service Excellence Award (formerly the Citizen of the Year Award) will be dished out.
Last year, Wayne Jefferson picked up the prestigious recognition, and a total of 16 volunteer extraordinaries were in the spotlight as part of the ceremony. Fifteen other nominees during the 2025 ceremony received Spirit of Service Awards.
More details on this year’s volunteer celebration are still to be announced.
Two days later – on April 25 – Brighton hosts its sport and recreation showcase. (Both of these events are happening at King Edward.)
As previously reported, at this celebration, there’s also supposed to be more on a new Junior A hockey club addition for Brighton. But the parks and rec team will also be looking to shine a light on several local sports groups and recreational clubs, while highlighting programs available in Brighton, say municipal staff.
The event is aimed at promoting active, healthy living all under one roof, add staff.
Residents will be able to swing by to visit booths, learn more about local opportunities and register for activities, while also taking in demonstrations. The event is set for 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 25.
And on April 30 at the community centre, there’s the official Brighton branding launch event. Officials will introduce Brighton’s “renewed visual identity” and delve into the inspiration behind it at 10 a.m.
Staff say all the gatherings celebrate the spirit of Brighton and support ongoing community growth and development.
