A Quinte West resident is facing impaired driving charges following a traffic stop involving an electric scooter in Trenton.
OPP say officers with the Quinte West detachment conducted a stop around 7 p.m. Sunday on Marmora Street. During the stop, police used an approved screening device, which led to the arrest of the operator.
A 66 year old Quinte West resident has been charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit.
Following the arrest, the accused was transported to the detachment for further testing and later released from custody. The individual is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on May 7.
Police say the accused’s driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days as part of the charges.
OPP are reminding residents that impaired driving laws apply to all forms of transportation, including electric scooters and other motorized devices.
Anyone who suspects someone is driving or about to operate a vehicle while impaired is urged to call 9 1 1. Police say reporting impaired driving can help prevent serious incidents and keep roads and communities safe.
