Police say a joint investigation with Cobourg police has resulted in 51 Criminal Code charges following a multi-jurisdictional theft investigation.
Port Hope police say Project Rubicon began in August 2025 after approximately $500,000 worth of copper wiring was stolen in the municipality. As the investigation progressed, officers say evidence linked the accused parties to a series of large-scale transport trailer thefts across Ontario.
On April 9, investigators, with assistance from the OPP Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement Squad, made arrests and executed multiple search warrants in the Brampton area.
Police say the investigation resulted in a combined total of 51 charges. These include theft over $5,000, theft of motor vehicles, possession of property obtained by crime, and drug-related offences involving substances such as heroin and cocaine.
During the search warrants, officers also seized $67,460 in Canadian currency believed to be proceeds of crime, along with additional evidence related to the investigation.
Port Hope police have not released any details surrounding the accused including how many individuals were charged or where they are from.
Officials say the investigation was supported through funding from the Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General, with assistance from Criminal Intelligence Service Ontario.
