The Ontario Provincial Police Association has confirmed a funeral service for fallen Northumberland OPP Sgt. Brandon Malcolm.
As previously reported, Malcolm died tragically in the line of duty Monday evening after what police described as a single-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle.
According to the association, a funeral service to honour Malcolm will be held Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., at the Cobourg Community Centre.
Further funeral details are still reportedly being finalized, and additional information is expected in the coming days. There have been initial but unconfirmed reports so far that several high-level dignitaries could be in attendance.
Yesterday – Thursday, April 30 – there was an emotional first-responders procession from the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto to Oshawa along the Highway of Heroes – and tributes continue to pour in from those who knew and worked alongside Malcolm.
“I extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who stood in solidarity this afternoon to honour OPP Sgt. Brandon Malcolm,” said OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique, after yesterday’s procession. “The overwhelming number of community members and emergency services personnel lining the Hwy. 401 overpasses was a powerful and deeply moving show of unity.
“Your presence along the procession paid tribute not only to his life, but to the lasting legacy he leaves behind. On behalf of Sgt. Malcolm’s family and all members of the OPP, thank you.”
In Northumberland, there are books of condolences set up now at both the Brighton and Cobourg OPP detachments. In Cobourg, a memorial motorcycle has also been set up outside the detachment, where people continue to also leave messages and flowers.
People can leave their condolences at either station during regular business hours.
