Construction has begun on a new year-round indoor tennis facility in Port Hope, marking a significant investment in local sport and recreation.
MPP David Piccini joined members of the Port Hope Racquet Club to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Raise the Dome project, which will introduce the community’s first indoor tennis courts.
Once complete, the facility will be the only dedicated indoor tennis venue serving Northumberland, Quinte, and Peterborough regions, creating new opportunities for athletes and families to play year-round.
The development includes installing a dome structure over the courts, adding a fourth court, and completing site upgrades to support expanded programming and community use.
The Ontario government is contributing more than $680,000 through the Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund, with an additional $200,000 provided by Tennis Canada.
Local officials say the project represents a major step forward for active living in the region.
They say the facility will increase access to recreation, support grassroots sport, and attract players from surrounding communities, helping position Port Hope as a year-round tennis destination.
The Port Hope Racquet Club has also announced a new operating partnership with The Supreme Court, an organization experienced in tennis programming and facility management, to support high-quality programming from the outset.
Community support has also played a key role, with contributions from donors and sponsors helping ensure the project’s long-term success.
Construction is now underway, with completion expected later this year.
