Students hailing from across Northumberland and beyond are helping drive a strong year of academic and competitive success at Trinity College School.
The Port Hope-based school draws students from local communities including Cobourg, Port Hope, Brighton as well as further afield, with staff noting participation also extends toward Peterborough and Quinte. That wide reach reflects the strength of the school’s programs and student engagement.
The achievements come during a milestone moment for the school, which marked its 161st anniversary on May 1.
In mathematics, head of department Matt Murray says students have been preparing throughout the year, with one individual advancing to the Canadian Math Olympiad, one of the country’s most competitive contests.
Murray says that result, along with a first-place finish at the Canadian Team Mathematics Contest, highlights the dedication students have shown through months of preparation.
Beyond math, students are also excelling in debate and public speaking.
Coach Greg MacPherson says those programs focus on building skills that extend well beyond competition.
Recent results include a first-place team finish at the Spring Fulford League Debate Tournament and strong performances at the Nora McRae Public Speaking Tournament.
MacPherson says the program has been rebuilding following pandemic disruptions, with current results reflecting that progress.
Together, the achievements highlight a school community where students from across the region are finding opportunities to grow, compete and succeed, both academically and personally.
