Belleville police say two youth are facing charges after the alleged seizure of a handgun and 72 grams of fentanyl, along with other drugs and cash.
According to the Belleville Police Service, on Tuesday, May 5, at about 2:14 p.m., police responded to the Front Street area after a report of an altercation involving unknown weapons.
After arriving on scene, police said officers learned the suspects had already fled.
Through investigation and after attending a nearby business, police said two males believed to be involved were found. While speaking with them, officers allegedly discovered one male was in possession of a loaded firearm, reported police.
Both of the accused were arrested and taken into custody without incident, added police.
As a result of the investigation, police said they seized 72 grams of fentanyl, two grams of cocaine, 58.5 Tylenol 3 pills with codeine, 44 Xanax pills, 17 unknown pills, one x 9mm Smith and Wesson handgun with eight 9mm bullets and magazine, and $4,434.55.
As a result of the probe, police said a 17-year-old Hamilton male – whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act – was arrested and charged with the following offences: Careless use of firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm knowing that the serial number on it has been tampered with, possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a loaded restricted firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a schedule IV substance for the purpose of trafficking – Xanax, possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine, possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – codeine, possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl, and possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000.
Police also said a 17-year-old Courtice male – whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act – was arrested and charged with the following offences: Possession of a firearm knowing that the serial number on it has been tampered with, possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a loaded restricted firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a schedule IV substance for the purpose of trafficking – Xanax, possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine, possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – codeine, possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl, and possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
