Northumberland-Clarke MP Philip Lawrence says housing affordability, trade uncertainty, healthcare access and the proposed Wesleyville nuclear project remain among the biggest issues facing residents across the riding.
Speaking with MBC Media, Lawrence discussed several ongoing federal issues affecting communities in Northumberland.
On housing affordability, Lawrence said both housing supply and government related building costs remain key concerns but bottom line, we need new houses.
Lawrence also addressed growing concerns surrounding tariffs and economic uncertainty tied to Canada’s relationship with the United States.
Lawrence said manufacturers and local employers continue expressing concern about prolonged trade instability and the potential economic impact on workers and families.
The MP also commented on the proposed Wesleyville nuclear project currently being studied in Northumberland.
Lawrence said while the project presents significant economic development opportunities, potential environmental and safety concerns must continue to be carefully reviewed through the federal assessment process.
He also touched on healthcare access, saying smaller and rural communities across Ontario need better support to ensure residents can access family doctors and care close to home.
Lawrence said the federal government must continue working collaboratively with provinces to provide the resources needed to strengthen healthcare services in communities across the riding.
