A report from a concerned member of the public has led to impaired driving charges against a Haldimand County resident, highlighting the important role residents play in keeping local roads safe.
According to the Ontario Provincial Police, officers were called to the Rattlesnake Road area on the evening of May 27 after receiving information about a vehicle being driven erratically. Police responded to the area shortly before 8 p.m. and launched an investigation.
As a result, a 63-year-old Haldimand County resident was arrested and charged with impaired operation and operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on July 7.
Police say the incident serves as an important reminder that members of the public can play a critical role in preventing serious collisions by reporting suspected impaired drivers.
The OPP continues to stress that impaired driving, whether involving alcohol or drugs, remains one of the leading causes of fatal and serious-injury crashes on Ontario roads.
Officers are encouraging residents to call 9-1-1 immediately if they observe a driver who appears to be impaired.
Police note that a single phone call can help prevent a tragedy and potentially save lives.
