It was an interesting early morning for Northumberland OPP and anyone travelling Hwy. 401 after a few cows decided to take a stroll from a nearby field to the highway.
According to Northumberland OPP, Hwy. 401 westbound near Vernonville was briefly closed due to the cows’ little field trip onto the highway just after 2:30 a.m.
“Thanks to attentive and cautious motorists, there were no collisions,” said OPP, whose officers also assisted the owner in safely escorting the animals back to their home near Vernonville.
Following this incident, police put out a reminder on social media about how hazards can come in all shapes and sizes. Police continue to urge motorists to stay alert, slow down and expect the unexpected – even if it “moo-ves.”
