Here’s a quick snapshot of what’s going on in Brighton and the surrounding areas over the next 48 hours.
MONDAY, JUNE 1:
BAY OF QUINTE RELAY FOR LIFE: There’s still time if you’re looking to rally some support or put in a team for this year’s Relay for Life. The event is coming up this Saturday, June 6 from 2 to 10 p.m. in support of the Canadian Cancer Society and will be hosted at Trenton High School.
TEENS CRAFT KITS: New “Grab and go” craft kits are available for teens to pick up at the Brighton Public Library today while supplies last.
TRENT HILLS PRIDE: FLAG-RAISING EVENTS: Trent Hills will kick-off Pride Month with several flag-raising ceremonies, including 9 a.m. at Old mill Park, Campbellford; 10 a.m. at Mill Creek Park, Warkworth; 11 a.m. at the Hastings library; noon at the Campbellford OPP Detachment; 2 p.m. at Campbellford Memorial Hospital and 3 p.m. at YMCA Campbellford.
AUTHOR CHAT: FAY MARTIN: Swing by the Brighton Public Library from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. to hear from author Fay Martin and learn about her new memoir, where she shares her journey throughout her husband’s dementia experience. Her book “Dementia Widow” will be available for purchase after the presentation.
TEEN COOKING: ANIME EATS: Calling all anime lovers! This hands-on cooking program offers participants a chance to recreate an iconic dish featured in your fave anime series and learn some basic cooking skills, all the while connecting with others and exploring food culture. Being hosted at the Trenton library branch for ages 12-plus from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
TUESDAY, JUNE 2:
BELLEVILLE FARMERS’ MARKET: The market is back up and running from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
GUIDED WALKS IN FERRIS PROVINCIAL PARK: These guided walks happen every Tuesday morning starting at 9 a.m. – rain or shine. Participants meet at the east end of the suspension bridge.
BRIGHTON PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB: The club has the King Edward Community Centre booked for its meeting from 9 a.m. to noon.
ACTIVITIES IN THE PARK: Belleville is kicking off Recreation and Parks Month and Seniors Month in style at West Zwick’s Park from 4 to 7 p.m. And all of the activities and demonstrations are free! Attendees can expect an inflatable obstacle course, balloon animals, live performances, food trucks, prizes, a mayor’s soccer challenge, and more.
INNOVATORS ACADEMY: In this fun, hands-on program for school-aged kids, participants will learn the basics of robotics, electronics and coding, says the Trenton library. Kids will learn about simple robots, create circuits, and explore how technology works, while also developing problem-solving and teamwork skills. Hosted from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Trenton library branch.
TRAIL RUNNING: This six-week running program returns in Batawa from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. thanks to a partnership between the Quinte West Public Library and Dirty Soles Trail Running. Whether you’re looking to build confidence, improve endurance, or just enjoy the outdoors, all fitness levels are welcome. Hosted at the Batawa Trails at 99 Ski Club Lane. The program has also been designed to support participants prepping for the June 13 Boomerang Race. Registration is required, but it’s a free program.
AUTHOR CHAT: GORDON PITTS: You can discover a shocking and true piece of Northumberland County history – which includes explosions, assassinations and cheese – at this special author chat at the Brighton Public Library from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Copies of “Scary Harry” will be available after the presentation. No registration is needed.
And don’t forget Brighton’s Concerts in the Park series starts this Wednesday at 6:30 at Memorial Park. Bentwood Rocker is kicking off the summer-long series.
LOCAL SPORTS: Support our teams!
In local baseball, the Brighton Bandits are back in action Monday night with seven games on the schedule. Two of the games are at home at King Edward Park, with the 11 and under teams and the 15 and under team playing at ball diamond A.
On Tuesday night, Brighton has three games, all of which are at home: The 13 and 19 and under teams have games on diamond A, while the nine and under group plays on diamond B at King Edward Park.
