The results are in after last weekend’s enhanced enforcement initiative in the Sandbanks Provincial Park area for “skip weekend.”
Prince Edward County OPP noted the enforcement effort also brought together the traffic incident management and enforcement team, marine unit and park wardens.
Throughout the weekend, there were multiple RIDE checks and proactive patrols leading to about 900 vehicles checked and numerous enforcement actions, said police.
According to OPP, the blitz led to two people arrested related to impaired driving and multiple seven-day licence suspensions were also issued for alcohol-related offences, including warn-range readings and novice drivers registering blood alcohol concentrations above zero.
Officers also said they seized significant quantities of alcohol from individuals under age 19 and in several instances alcohol was found inside vehicles while they were being operated, leading to charges under the Liquor Licence and Control Act.
Charges were also laid in other instances for having cannabis readily available within a vehicle, reported OPP.
There were also several incidents that police responded to during the enforcement period, including a youth needing medical attention after consuming alcohol and cannabis, a stolen vehicle investigation resulting in an arrest, and multiple traffic-related occurrences leading to charges and warnings, explained OPP.
OPP continues to remind all motorists that regular enforcement efforts continue, and there is zero tolerance for impaired or unsafe driving.
