The City of Quinte West and the union representing more than 145 municipal workers will enter conciliation this week as negotiations continue toward a new collective agreement.
The city announced Monday that it and the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 799.3 have agreed to participate in the provincially facilitated process following several months of bargaining.
The current collective agreement expired March 31.
Conciliation is a standard step in Ontario’s collective bargaining process and involves a provincially appointed conciliator who works with both parties in an effort to help advance negotiations and resolve outstanding issues.
The union represents both inside and outside workers employed by the municipality.
In a statement, city officials said they remain committed to negotiating in good faith and reaching a fair agreement that recognizes the contributions of employees while remaining fiscally responsible to taxpayers.
The city did not disclose details of the negotiations, citing the need to support a productive bargaining process.
Municipal officials also emphasized that city services continue to operate normally and that no service disruptions are anticipated at this time.
The city said updates on the bargaining process will be provided through its website and official communication channels as appropriate.
