A community fundraising effort has surpassed $22,000 after a house fire left a Quinte West family without a home.
According to a GoFundMe campaign organized by Marla Brum, PJ, Alicia and their two young daughters lost their home and nearly all of their belongings in a fire on June 12. The family escaped safely, but were left without clothing, toys, household items and many of the everyday essentials needed to carry on with daily life.
The fundraiser says the family is currently facing immediate expenses, including temporary housing, food, clothing and school or camp supplies for their children while they navigate the insurance process. Organizers describe PJ and Alicia as people who are always willing to help others and say the community is now rallying around them in their time of need.
Support has been strong since the campaign was launched. As of Tuesday evening, the fundraiser had raised just over $22,300 from more than 130 donations.
The fire is one of several significant residential fires reported in the Bay of Quinte region in recent weeks. Emergency responders were able to ensure the family made it out safely, but the loss of the home has left them facing a lengthy recovery process.
Organizers say every donation, regardless of size, will go directly toward helping the family rebuild and cover immediate living expenses.
Those wishing to support the family can donate through the GoFundMe campaign.
