A 17-year-old Belleville male is facing multiple charges following an intimate partner violence investigation.
Belleville police say officers were called to a residence in the city’s west end Friday evening after receiving a report of suspicious activity.
According to investigators, the complainant reported hearing a noise outside a window the previous night. The following day, damage consistent with a BB gun was discovered.
Police say the investigation determined the complainant’s daughter had recently been involved in a confrontation with an ex-partner.
Investigators allege the young woman received unwanted messages while away from the residence that included threats directed at her, her family and her home.
Police further allege that during an earlier incident, a verbal dispute escalated and the accused used an imitation firearm, holding it to the victim’s head.
On Saturday, officers located and arrested a 17-year-old male. Because he is a youth, his identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
He is charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, mischief under $5,000, uttering threats to damage property, three counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, and failing to comply with a sentence.
Belleville Police remind anyone experiencing intimate partner violence that support is available and encourage victims or anyone concerned for their safety to contact police or a local support agency.
