Quinte West is once again opening a cooling centre as high temperatures are expected to continue through the week.
The city says the cooling centre at the Duncan McDonald Memorial Community Gardens, located at 8 Couch Crescent in Trenton, will be open daily from Monday, June 29 through Sunday, July 5.
Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
The cooling centre is activated when forecasts call for two consecutive days with temperatures reaching at least 31 degrees Celsius or humidex values of 35 or higher.
In addition to the cooling centre, residents can cool off at splash pads in both Trenton and Frankford, which are open daily from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.
Officials encourage residents to take precautions during periods of extreme heat by drinking plenty of water, limiting strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day and seeking air-conditioned spaces when possible.
The city also reminds residents to check on family members, neighbours and others who may be more vulnerable to heat-related illness, including older adults, young children and those with underlying health conditions.
The cooling centre will remain open through Sunday, July 5, while temperatures continue to be monitored. Any changes to operating hours or additional heat-related information will be shared by the City of Quinte West.
