Belleville Police laid charges in two unrelated investigations over the Canada Day holiday period.
On Canada Day, officers responded to a residence in the city’s east end after receiving a report of a domestic dispute.
Police say a verbal argument between a man and woman began while they were driving and escalated when the woman allegedly tried to grab an item from the driver, causing a cut to his arm. Investigators also allege that after returning home, a television was struck and shattered.
A 26-year-old Belleville woman was arrested and charged with assault – spousal and domestic mischief. She was later released on an undertaking with a court appearance scheduled for August.
In a separate investigation, Belleville police charged a man following an ongoing dispute between tenants at a west-end rooming house.
Police first attended the residence on June 29 and instructed those involved to remain separated within the home. Officers returned the following day after another dispute was reported.
Following a review of video footage, investigators allege a male tenant made a threatening gesture toward a female resident.
A 51-year-old Belleville man has been charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm. He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court in September.
