Habitat for Humanity Northumberland is inviting residents to learn, volunteer and connect during its inaugural Habitat in Action Week, a six-day series of community events running July 13 through 18.
The initiative is designed to showcase the organization’s expanding role in strengthening communities across Northumberland County through affordable housing, critical home repairs, volunteerism and education.
Among the week’s featured events is Building Stronger Communities – A Community Conversation, taking place Tuesday, July 14, at 6:30 p.m. at the Habitat for Humanity Northumberland ReStore in Cobourg. The free event will explore how the organization is addressing local housing needs beyond new home construction and how community partnerships continue to support that work.
CEO Cathy Borowec says many people know Habitat for the homes it builds, but the organization now offers a much broader range of programs.
She says the week provides an opportunity to share those stories, celebrate community partnerships and encourage more residents to become involved.
Other activities include family birdhouse-building workshops, a women’s DIY pallet plant stand workshop, corporate volunteer experiences and an after-hours ReStore event featuring local furniture refinishing expert Flipping Beautiful.
Throughout the week, volunteers and local businesses will work alongside Habitat staff on projects supporting ReStore operations and critical home repair initiatives that benefit families across Northumberland County.
Habitat in Action Week is supported by several local sponsors, including Stadtke Plumbing & Heating, Part-Time CFO Services, Lakefront Utilities, Canada Pallet, Spoolon and Linmac.
Registration and a complete schedule of events are available at Habitat for Humanity Northumberland’s website.
