A new summer tradition is ready to find its rhythm in Port Hope.
The inaugural River Time Blues Festival takes over the Ganaraska Brewing Company and Ontario Street Theatre from July 24 to 26, offering three days of live blues music that ranges from swamp blues and harmonica classics to folk-inspired sounds and high-energy dance music. The festival features a mix of free and ticketed performances, anchored by Saturday’s outdoor showcase at Ganaraska Brewing Company.
Co-creator Sean Carthew says the festival has been years in the making.
Friday’s free opening concert features guitarist Camilo Restrepo, while Sunday’s Blues Kitchen Party welcomes musicians to take the stage for an open jam. Between them is Saturday’s main event, featuring Juno Award winner Paul Reddick, Bad Luck Woman and Her Misfortunes, Dave Mowat and the Curbside Shuffle, The Fraser Melvin Band and DJ Salinger.
Carthew says one of the goals is to showcase just how broad the blues genre can be.
Beyond the music, organizers hope people will settle in, relax and embrace what Carthew calls “River Time.”
Saturday’s outdoor concert begins at 1:30 p.m. at Ganaraska Brewing Company. Limited seating will be available, and guests are welcome to bring lawn chairs or umbrellas. Tickets and the full weekend schedule are available here.
