Loyalist College has confirmed it is responding to a cyberattack that has disrupted a number of its online systems.
College officials say the cyberattack was identified last Thursday and has since been contained. However, the resulting network outage continues to affect several key services, including campus internet, email, student registration and tuition payment systems.
Despite the disruption, in person classes are continuing as scheduled and college campuses remain open. Officials say online classes have been suspended until further notice while work continues to restore affected systems. OntarioLearn courses are continuing as normal, and both the college website and telephone services remain operational.
Quinte News reports it asked college officials about whether a ransom demand had been made and how the incident is being handled, but no additional information had been provided as of Wednesday morning.
Loyalist College is thanking students, staff and the community for their patience and is encouraging students to monitor the college website for updates as recovery efforts continue.
