A Quinte West man is facing multiple charges after police investigated an alleged assault involving a dog and its owner in Trenton.
Quinte West OPP say officers, assisted by the Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit, responded to the area near Creswell Drive on July 13 after receiving a report that a dog had been assaulted and that the animal’s owner was later assaulted.
As a result of the investigation, Thomas Hazelton, 28, of Quinte West, has been charged with killing or injuring an animal, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, obstructing a peace officer, and personation with intent to avoid arrest, prosecution or obstruct justice.
Police say the accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville.
The OPP has not released additional information about the circumstances surrounding the incident or the condition of the dog or its owner. The charges have not been proven in court.
