A 63-year-old Warkworth man has died following a propane explosion at a residential trailer located on the property of Bellmere Winds Golf Resort.
The Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, along with local fire crews and paramedics, responded to reports of the explosion on Villiers Line shortly after 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
The man was transported from the scene by ambulance before being airlifted to a Toronto-area hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police say he later died from those injuries and was pronounced deceased on Thursday.
The investigation into the explosion is being led by the Peterborough County OPP Major Crime Unit, in partnership with several agencies, including the Office of the Fire Marshal, Technical Standards and Safety Authority, the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
Police have not released additional details about what caused the explosion.
The Peterborough County OPP continues to investigate and is asking anyone with information related to the incident to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
