With the nomination deadline fast approaching, there’s a bona fide race for mayor in Brighton, with two candidates seeking the municipality’s top-elected position.
Incumbent mayor Brian Ostrander, who filed his nomination papers on May 1st – the first day he could do so – is facing a challenge from Christina Bergmann, who made her intentions official on July 10th.
To date, Laura Knegt is the lone candidate running for deputy-mayor.
Meanwhile, six election hopefuls are seeking one of five council seats.
Incumbent councillors Jeff Wheeldon and Emily Rowley are seeking re-election. They’re facing a challenge from Mark Bateman, Catherine Stutt, Richar Stamplecoski and Christine Raynor.
Current deputy mayor Ron Anderson, and councillors Anne Butwell, Hannah MacAusland and Bobbi Wright, have not indicated if they will seek re-election. The nomination deadline is August 21st with the municipal election set for October 26th.
