The Northumberland OPP has laid impaired driving charges following three unrelated incidents in Brighton and Trent Hills.
Police say the first investigation began on July 25 after officers received a traffic complaint about a passenger vehicle that was unable to maintain its lane on County Road 30 in Brighton.
Officers located and stopped a vehicle matching the description.
The driver was taken into custody following an impaired driving investigation.
Police say the investigation led to several additional charges, including failure or refusal to comply with a demand, having cannabis readily available in a vehicle, driving without insurance, driving without a currently validated permit and failing to comply with a release order.
The second incident happened early July 25 during a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere, or RIDE, checkpoint on Old Hastings Road at County Road 25 in Trent Hills.
Police say officers stopped a vehicle at the checkpoint and launched an impaired driving investigation, resulting in one person being taken into custody.
The driver is facing a charge of operating a vehicle while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over 80.
The third investigation followed a single vehicle collision shortly after 12:30 a.m. on July 28 near Wellington Street and Nelson Lane in Trent Hills.
Emergency Medical Services, fire services and the OPP responded to the collision.
Police say the driver was uninjured and was taken into custody following an impaired driving investigation.
The driver is facing a charge of operating a vehicle while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over 80.
Police say each person charged with impaired operation received a 90 day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and a seven day vehicle impoundment.
The accused in the three impaired driving investigations are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg, with court appearances set for September and October.
The Northumberland OPP is reminding residents that RIDE initiatives are conducted throughout the year to help keep roadways safe.
Police are encouraging anyone planning to consume alcohol or drugs to arrange a designated driver, taxi, rideshare, public transportation or another safe way to get home.
Anyone who suspects a driver is impaired by alcohol or drugs should call 9 1 1 immediately.
