A Trenton woman is celebrating after winning a $100,000 top prize with a Crossword Tripler scratch ticket.
Judith M., a retired educational assistant, says she has been playing lottery games with OLG for years, but Crossword scratch tickets have become a favourite part of her weekly routine.
One weekend, while watching a Blue Jays game at home, Judith decided to scratch her ticket. She then used the OLG app on her phone to check the result.
At first, she thought she had won $10. Then she realized the prize was $100 before discovering she had actually won the $100,000 top prize.
Judith says she scanned the ticket three times to make sure she was reading it correctly.
She immediately put the winning ticket in a safe and kept the news private for several weeks before telling a couple of friends and her mother.
When she eventually went to validate the ticket at the store, she says the clerk’s reaction made the moment even more memorable, with staff celebrating and giving her hugs.
Judith says she is grateful for the unexpected windfall and is looking forward to using some of her winnings for travel.
Her plans include visiting Canada’s East Coast and taking a dream vacation to Hawaii. She would like to take a hot air balloon ride as well.
The winning Crossword Tripler ticket was purchased at Metro on Quinte Street in Trenton.
Crossword Tripler costs $5 per play and has a top prize of $100,000. OLG says the odds of winning any prize are one in 3.76.
Judith collected her winnings at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto.
OLG encourages players to play responsibly through its PlaySmart program.
