A Quinte West woman is facing impaired driving charges following a collision investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police.
The Quinte West Detachment says officers responded to a collision on Wallbridge Road at approximately 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28.
During the investigation, police say they suspected the driver may have been under the influence of alcohol. An Approved Screening Device was used, which led to the driver being arrested.
The driver was transported to the Quinte West Detachment for further testing, resulting in charges being laid.
Leah Dempsey, 41, of Quinte West, has been charged with:
Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on September 10, 2026.
Police say the vehicle involved was impounded for seven days and the driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days.
The OPP is reminding motorists that if they suspect someone is driving or about to drive while impaired, they should call 9-1-1. Police say reporting impaired drivers can help prevent collisions and protect lives.
