A home north of Campbellford has been destroyed after a garage fire spread into the residence Monday afternoon.
Trent Hills firefighters were called to Healy Falls Drive just before 4 p.m. following reports of a structure fire.
Fire Chief Sean Jameson said nobody was home when the fire broke out, avoiding what could have been a much more serious situation.
The blaze started in the garage before spreading to the adjoining home. Despite the response from firefighters, the damage was extensive and the residence was destroyed.
Crews remained at the rural property while working to bring the fire under control and deal with the aftermath.
The property is located north of Campbellford in the Municipality of Trent Hills.
There was no immediate word on what caused the fire.
The incident highlights how quickly flames can move from a garage into an attached home, leaving firefighters with little time to prevent major damage.
Officials had not released an estimate of the financial loss.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing.
