Children who will be riding the school bus for the first time this fall can get a preview of what to expect through the First Rider Program.
The program is designed to introduce new riders and their families to the school bus in a safe and familiar setting. Each session lasts approximately 30 minutes and includes a safety video followed by a 10-minute bus ride.
Sessions run every half hour between 3 and 6 p.m., and a large school bus and wheelchair-accessible school bus will be available.
Several upcoming sessions are being held locally:
August 17: St. Mary Catholic Secondary School, 1050 Birchwood Trail, Cobourg
August 18: Brighton Public School, 24 Elizabeth Street, Brighton
August 19: Hillcrest Public School, 55 Elmore Street, Campbellford
The program is offered at no cost, and walk-ins are welcome. Families are encouraged to register in advance.
The First Rider Program is offered through Student Transportation Services of Central Ontario, which transports students for the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board, and Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir.
