Cobourg’s 10 For 10 campaign has raised $11,195 to support people displaced by wildfires in northern Ontario.
Mayor Lucas Cleveland says the campaign has now wrapped up, with the funds being prepared to send north as quickly as possible.
Cleveland says residents of Armstrong and Whitesand remain under evacuation orders and are currently in Thunder Bay.
“They need this money and we’re proud to send it to them,” Cleveland said.
Cleveland credited the generosity of people in Cobourg and the surrounding community for helping the campaign reach its final total.
He thanked Cobourg council for supporting the initiative, as well as Alderville and local service clubs for partnering on the fundraising effort.
The campaign was organized to provide direct financial assistance to people affected by the ongoing wildfire evacuations.
Cleveland says the account is being closed and the cheque will be sent as soon as possible because the need among evacuees remains ongoing.
“$11,195 of incredible generosity from the people of Cobourg and the surrounding community,” Cleveland said.
The campaign’s final total provides a direct example of local support being extended to communities dealing with the effects of the wildfires.
