Playing hockey has taken Marrek Hennessy to communities across Ontario.
Now, the Brighton native is coming home.
Hennessy has signed with the Brighton Vikings and says the opportunity to play competitive hockey in the community where he lives made the decision an easy one.
The forward has played hockey since he was three years old, beginning in Sterling before spending time in Campbellford, Brighton, Kingston and Orangeville. He also played for the Northumberland Stars and North Kawartha before taking a year away from the sport to attend university.
After time off the ice, Hennessy said joining the Vikings offered the chance to return to the game while staying close to his roots.
Hennessy says Brighton has always had a special place in his life. His family has longstanding connections to the community, and he says the town’s close-knit atmosphere is something he values.
He also believes the Vikings are positioned for a strong season.
Hennessy says he has watched and played against several players expected to be part of the team and believes the roster has plenty of talent and players capable of filling important roles.
Beyond the competition, Hennessy says hockey has helped shape him personally.
The Vikings are expected to make a community appearance at Brighton Speedway on September 12th, giving fans a chance to meet some of the players ahead of the season.
