Flags across Cobourg will be lowered to half-staff Sunday in recognition of the funeral of retired Cobourg Police Service Deputy Chief Paul Donald Eddy.
The Town of Cobourg says the flags are being lowered at the request of Mayor Lucas Cleveland to honour Eddy’s service to the community.
Eddy died Thursday, August 27, at the age of 84.
He dedicated more than three decades to the Cobourg Police Service, rising through the ranks before serving as Deputy Chief. He retired from the service in 1996.
Eddy’s career was recognized with the Police Exemplary Service Medal from the Governor General of Canada in 1985. He received the First Bar to the medal in 1996, recognizing 30 years of exemplary service.
Mayor Cleveland offered condolences to Eddy’s family and loved ones on behalf of council and the Town of Cobourg.
“We are grateful for his incredible service to Cobourg,” Cleveland said.
The flags will remain at half-staff on Sunday, September 6, in recognition of Eddy’s funeral.
