The Community Training and Development Centre is marking its 30th anniversary by bringing together a group of local and international experts to examine the importance of early brain development.
The Early Brain Development, Powering Creativity and Economic Growth event takes place October 28th at the Best Western in Cobourg, running from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The event will be available both in person and through a livestream.
CTDC CEO Madelaine Carelli says the organization wanted its anniversary event to focus on an issue she believes affects families, educators and the broader community.
The half-day event will feature speakers covering a range of topics connected to childhood development.
Those include brain architecture, resiliency, childcare, climate change, music, outdoor play and nutrition.
Among the speakers are Dr. Janet Rose, Vice Chancellor of Norland University; Dr. Dan Worry, author of The Daycare Myth; Dr. Kimberly Squires and Dr. Catherine Walton from the University of Guelph; Professor Frank Russo of Toronto Metropolitan University; and Dr. Annabella Bonata of the University of Waterloo’s Intact Centre on Climate Adaptation.
Carelli says the event is intended for a wide audience, including parents, grandparents, extended family members, teachers and childcare professionals.
Carelli says the event is also meant to reach people beyond the immediate family.
People can attend the event in person at the Best Western or watch through the livestream.
Carelli says the online option has already attracted interest from outside the area.
Each speaker is expected to speak for approximately 20 to 25 minutes, with Dr. Dan Worry moderating.
