Christina Bergmann is running for mayor of Brighton, drawing on her professional background in project management and her personal connection to the community. Having spent much of her childhood visiting Presqu’ile and returning to Brighton three years ago, she says her campaign is focused on managing growth while preserving the qualities that make the town feel like home.
Bergmann says she wants Brighton to accommodate new residents without losing its small-town character. She points to the mix of retirees, younger families, farmland and local amenities as part of what makes the community distinctive.
Priorities
Bergmann identifies sustainable development, infrastructure planning and downtown revitalization among her priorities. She says she would also seek to take back Brighton’s strong mayor powers, including greater involvement in the budget process, and wants municipal decisions to be measured against the town’s long-term plans.
She raises concerns about proposed housing development near marshland by Presqu’ile, saying environmental protection, emergency access and the location of future growth should be considered together. Other priorities include improving traffic flow, reviewing speed enforcement and creating a community centre with drop-in activities for children and families.
What Sets Her Apart
Bergmann says her professional experience as a project manager has involved balancing budgets, client expectations and practical design requirements. She points to her work on a net-zero police building project in Brantford, along with her familiarity with municipal reporting and council processes, as experience she would bring to the mayor’s office.
She says she would also focus on keeping residents informed about development and municipal planning, including making documents more accessible and finding ways to bring information directly into the community.
Why She Loves Brighton
Bergmann says her connection to Brighton goes back to childhood visits to Presqu’ile, and that returning to the area was driven by its combination of small-town living, local services, farmland and access to the outdoors. She mentions attending Music in the Park, visiting downtown businesses and taking part in community activities with her family.
Bergmann says her campaign is about protecting the community’s existing character while planning for the needs of residents as Brighton continues to grow.
