Ontario Provincial Police have charged a 43-year-old Belleville man following a disturbance and subsequent vehicle theft investigation in Trenton.
Police were called to a business on Dundas Street West shortly after 1:30 p.m. Friday. A man fled on foot from a stolen vehicle before allegedly taking another vehicle from a nearby residence.
The vehicle was later located near Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, where OPP officers worked with Tyendinaga Police and Belleville Police to stop it. The suspect fled into a wooded area but was later arrested following a coordinated search involving the OPP Canine Unit and Emergency Response Team.
The man faces numerous charges, including assault, forcible confinement, flight from police, dangerous operation, vehicle theft, break and enter, assault with a weapon and multiple counts of failing to comply with court orders.
He is also charged with possession of methamphetamine and heroin, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and five firearm or ammunition offences.
The OPP thanked the Tyendinaga and Belleville police services for their assistance.
