Ground broke last week on a new Animal Care and Adoption Centre for the Northumberland Humane Society in Cobourg. The building will add 6,100 square feet and increase space for animal care and adoptions.
Director of animal care Wendy Riley says the Board of Directors are always looking to grow and make the accommodations better for animals in their care.
Riley says the plans will evolve as to how many staff and volunteers they need depending on the amount of animals in their care.
Campaign director Kim Goode adds the building will be a better place for animals and staff.
Goode says reaching out to the community is a main way to help the society.
A fundraising campaign, called “Built on Second Chances — Where Animals Find Their Way Home,” has a goal of $4 million.
