Norfolk County voters have largely opted for continuity at the council table, returning several incumbents and electing Ward 6 councillor Adam Veri as the next mayor.
A total of 20,162 votes were cast this year, up from 19,401 in the previous election — an increase of 761, or approximately 3.9 per cent.
Sitting councillors seeking re-election won in Wards 1, 2, 5 and 7, while Veri secured the mayor’s position after Amy Martin chose not to seek another term.
Ward 5’s second seat, vacated by mayoral candidate Doug Brunton, went to a Ryan Boyko.
The outcome in Ward 4 remains unresolved.
With all results reported, incumbent Chris Van Paassen and challenger Jeni Lambert each received 858 votes.
Depending on how that tie is resolved, the next nine-member council will include either five or six returning members, counting Veri in his new role as mayor.
New councillors were guaranteed in Ward 3, where Michael Columbus did not seek re-election, and Ward 6, where Veri’s mayoral bid left the seat open.
While the results do not explain every voter’s motivation, the success of sitting council members suggests a preference for experienced representatives and a measure of continuity in the County’s direction.
Election results remain unofficial pending confirmation by the Norfolk County Clerk.
