The Ontario government is providing $113,476 in annual funding to two Seniors Active Living Centres in Northumberland County.
For 2026-27, the Cobourg Seniors Activity Centre will receive $55,880, while the Ruth Clarke Activity Centre in Port Hope will get $57,596.
The funding will support programs designed to keep older adults active, healthy and socially connected. The Cobourg centre serves about 1,000 seniors annually, offering fitness classes, social activities, creative programs and pickleball. The Ruth Clarke centre serves nearly 700 people through recreation, fitness, arts, educational workshops and social programs.
Northumberland-Peterborough South MPP David Piccini says the investment will help seniors remain independent, build friendships and stay engaged in their communities.
Ontario is investing nearly $23 million this year to support 416 Seniors Active Living Centre programs across the province, including 97 new programs. The province says it represents the largest investment in the program’s history.
