
Quinte West has joined other municipalities in declaring a state of emergency.
This expands the municipalities powers to deal with issues related to the COVID-19 response and restrictions that have been imposed by the Ontario and Federal governments.
Powers that include ensure staffing for essential services provided by the municipality.
Hastings and Prince Edward Counties are both on board with the declaration.
Municipal leaders say a formal state of emergency is symbolic too since it sharpens the point on why its important all residents follow public health protocols aimed at slowing the spread of novel corona virus.
