Jim Millar, Director of Parks and Recreation is celebrating 25 years working for the Municipality of Brighton.
Millar started his municipal career working part-time for the Parks and Recreation department in Belleville while attending college. This experience began his municipal career.
After leaving the City of Belleville, Millar started working with the former Town of Brighton in 1996 as the Arena/Parks Manager and became the Director of Parks and Recreation for the Municipality in 2005.
His current department was created after an amalgamation of two departments in 2001 and its mandate is to manage all recreation facilities, sports fields, trails, green space, municipal flower gardens and marina and boat launches within the Municipality of Brighton.
A current department budget is the relocation and development of new Pickleball courts at King Edward Park in the vacant area behind the lower ball diamond, so that there is easy access, adequate parking and washroom facilities. Construction began in October 2020 and the anticipated opening in mid to late spring 2022.
“I feel blessed to be working as the Director of Parks and Recreation and having had the ability to grow through the many events and changes that I have faced while working for the Municipality all these years,” reflected Millar. “I am also grateful for having very dedicated staff which is invaluable during these days of constant changes we face in dealing with the Pandemic.”
