The Northumberland Labour Council is asking for action from government in regards to the recent protests associated with the Freedom Convoy in Ottawa and across the province.
President of the Labour council Dan Tobin said in the statement that the organization wants to express their extreme frustration and disappointment in the way the government have handled the occupation in Ottawa, and at border crossings across the country.
Tobin said the council is calling on the federal and provincial governments to work together and quickly deliver urgently needed direct support to the workers and businesses affected, and a full condemnation of the what they’re calling an occupation.
Now last night, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has invoked the Emergencies Act in an effort to end anti-government blockades he says are illegal and not about peaceful protest.
Trudeau says the act will be used to protect critical infrastructure such as borders and airports.
