Brighton Council is set to allow the public back in its council chambers for the first time in two years at its next council meeting March 7th.
“As mayor I can say we’re working on allowing people back in the council chambers and returning to whatever normal looks like post-pandemic,” said Mayor Brian Ostrander, noting March 2020 was the last time the public could attend in-person council meetings in the municipality.
Council meetings were briefly re-opened to the public at the King Edward Park Community Centre in the summer of 2020, but were stopped due to difficulties keeping the public six-feet apart, said Mayor Ostrander.
Ostrander notes the public will still be required to wear masks and for visitors to consider physical distancing when in the gallery.
Those who are not comfortable attending the council meeting in person can still view the proceedings on the municipality’s YouTube channel and there will still be access for delegations and public meetings via the Zoom platform.
