A Brighton businesswoman is proudly showing the Ukrainian colours — blue and yellow — in her store window in a show of support for the besieged nation and its people.
Gina Boyd of G Boyd Boutique in downtown Brighton hopes many members of the Brighton Downtown Business Improvement Area (DBIA) will join her in displaying a small Ukrainian flag in the shape of a heart containing the words ‘We Stand With Ukraine’.
Boyd said the Ukrainian flag campaign is a small way to show peace, solidarity and support for Ukraine and its people. She noted she is heartbroken with the news out of Ukraine, which has come under attack by Russian armed forces.
Boyd said she ordered 20 of the small, heart-shaped flags designed and printed by Barratt’s Office Pro – Brighton and she has ordered another 20. Although she has yet to give any out to other downtown businesses (they arrived this morning, Thursday, March 3), she noted that she’s received a lot of interest in conversations with other business owners.
“Anyone who wants one can come and pick them up, put them in their window. They’re not big, but the point is you can see them beside your open and closed sign and it sends a message (of support for Ukraine),” said Boyd.
Starting today, a copy of the heart-shaped Ukrainian flag will be available at the Brighton Cramahe Chamber of Commerce at 143 Main St. (beside Lola’s Cafe).
