Jerome Dupont is in and Peter Goulet is out as the head coach/general manager of the Trenton Golden Hawks of the Ontario Junior Hockey League.
Sandy Smith, Rod Finney and Shawn Hicks — the ownership trio of the Golden Hawks — announced Jerome Dupont, a familiar face who served as the head coach previously from 2011 to 2017, will return in the dual role of head coach and general manager for the coming season.
Meanwhile, the Golden Hawks announced yesterday that Goulet will no longer serve in the head coach/GM capacity with the team. He will, however, remain with the team in an unannounced capacity.
Dupont, a former National Hockey League player, said he relishes the challenge of returning to Trenton and building on a winning tradition with the Golden Hawks.
“The Trenton Golden Hawks organization and fans have very high standards and so do I,” said Dupont in a press release. “The goal for this upcoming season it to win a national championship. I look forward to the challenge that lies ahead.”
For their part, the owners and management of the Golden Hawks are thrilled to have Dupont back in the fold.
Jerome Dupont is a proven winner,” said Director of Operations John McDonald in a press release. “His experience playing in the NHL, winning behind the bench and knowledge of the game will make everyone better.”
During his six years as head coach of the Trenton squad, Dupont led the GHawks to the North-East Conference Finals three times, two appearances in the OJHL Finals, a Buckland Cup (OJHL Championship), two Dudley Hewitt Cups (Central Canadian Championship) and two National Championship appearances.
Other coaching credentials for Dupont include a National Junior A Championship in 2007 with the Aurora Tigers, 2 years of coaching experience with Gatineau Olympiques in the QMJHL and Associate Coach with Brock University in the OUA.
