For over a month now staff at the Ganaraska Forest Conservation Authority have been working, at times with help from other conservation authorities, to reopen all the areas affected by the storm on May 21st that left thousands without power and saw telephone poles and trees snapped like twigs across the county.
We caught up with Pam Lancaster, Conservation Lands Coordinator who was out working in the forest.
She told us that this is the single worst event they’ve ever experienced.
Every effort is being made to reopen as soon as possible, but according to Lancaster, it won’t be before Canada Day, so plan accordingly and continue to be patient.
As of June 24th, the Ganaraska Conservation Authority reports the following:
CLOSED
Ganaraska Forest
Garden Hill Conservation Area
Port Hope Conservation Area
OPEN
Tree Top Trekking Ganaraska
Ganaraska Millennium Conservation Area
Thurne Park Conservation Area
Balls Mill Conservation Area
Sylvan Glen Conservation Area
Richardson’s Lookout Conservation Area
Rice Lake Conservation Area
Cobourg Conservation Area
For the latest info on what’s open and what’s still closed, the GRCA continues to post on Tuesdays and Fridays on their Facebook page: www.facebook.com/GanaraskaFC.
